GOLF AND LIFE SKILLS CLASSES (Conducted at The First Tee of Augusta and other area golf course program locations)
For many participants, The First Tee program will be new experience. In addition to meeting other young people from different backgrounds, they will be exposed to golf in a fun environment that emphasizes courtesy, honesty, self-discipline, and respect. The length of time needed to advance from one level to the next will vary from student to student. It is not a race, but a journey that assures each student receives the necessary tools to have a fun and rewarding life on and off the golf course. The First Tee of Augusta’s, 8-week, golf and life skills classes meet once or twice a week for 1.5 -2 hours each meeting, and incorporate positive life skills with quality golf instruction. Five progressive levels of instruction are offered: PLAYer, Par, Birdie, Eagle, and Ace. All students must begin at the PLAYer Level. Members must pass all of the requirements necessary to become certified at their current level, before progressing to more advanced programming levels. Participants are required to take at least one 8-week golf and life skills class per year to maintain active membership. Actively enrolled students are eligible to apply for National Opportunities sponsored by The First Tee Home Office.

THE FIRST TEE NATIONAL SCHOOL PROGRAM
The First Tee National School Program provides physical educators with everything they need to get started teaching golf and life skills. Physical Educators are trained to deliver a modified version of the curriculum during PE classes at their schools. This has allowed thousands more students to be exposed to The First Tee. The First Tee of Augusta oversees the NSP in elementary school in our four-county service area to include Richmond, Burke, Columbia and McDuffie Counties. The curriculum lesson plans integrate basic golf motor skills, core values and healthy habits. The lesson plans are based around four primary areas:
- Developmental approach to teaching and learning
- Motor skill and concept learning
- Character and health education – personal and social responsibility
- Lifelong activity
Each year, local NSP Schools are invited to participate in The First Tee of Augusta’s NSP Skills Challenge, where teams of 3rd, 4th and 5th grad students compete in a SNAG based driving, chipping, putting
competition, as well as writing Core value and healthy habits essays. Contact Coach Lashunda Hall (firstname.lastname@example.org) for more information.
We believe our values extend beyond the golf course, which is why we launched a program to meet kids where they spend time. The First Tee DRIVE is the perfect activity for kids because it Develops Rewarding, Inspiring Values for Everyone. Specifically designed for youth-serving organizations, like the Y and the Boys & Girls Club, The First Tee DRIVE gives kids the chance to learn about golf and develop character through fun golf games. The First Tee supplies the curriculum, the equipment and the training for youth leaders to deliver the program. Much like our other programs, The First Tee DRIVE is designed to introduce kids to golf and The First Tee Nine Core Values — honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, confidence, responsibility, perseverance, courtesy and judgment. The DRIVE program objectives are to:
- Enable youth leaders to introduce golf using modified sports and games in ways that fit the ages and abilities of the young people in their care
- Engage young people in fun, safe activities that promote wellness and health-enhancing lifestyles.
- Develop appreciation for the positive values associated with golf through each activity and extend those behaviors to other areas of their lives.

PGA Jr. League is a game-changing opportunity for boys and girls to learn and play golf. The program brings family and friends together around fun, team golf experiences with expert coaching from PGA and LPGA Professionals. PGA Jr. League is all about the recreational and developmental nature of regular season matches, held between April 1 and July 31. During the course of one game, teams play four 9-hole matches in a popular two-person scramble format, reinforcing the team concept and creating a nurturing environment for learning the game. Coaches can also substitute players every three holes, so that all of the golfers on each team can participate. Contact Coach Alphonso Ashford (firstname.lastname@example.org) for more information.
